The “Kantilena” is the oldest poem in the Maltese language. It was written by Pietru Caxaru, a philosopher, orator and poet from Imdina, Malta, more than 550 years ago. To this day it remains one of the most beautifully written poems in Maltese and it introduces to the “Kantilena” in all its literary glory.
