16th October, 1943.
In the Roman ghetto, Emanuele, a twelve-year-old boy, sees his mother get dragged onto a German truck. He runs to her, hugs her, but she pushes him off the truck. Emanuele hides on a tram and begins a journey that, one stop after another, leads him to a place of refuge. He tells the ticket seller that he is a Jew, and asks him for protection from the Germans who are looking for him. The tram driver, as well as others later on, protect the boy and help him stay alive for three years until he manages to find his father.
A tragic fact, a story of hope and salvation.
